Trafalgar Square is defended from the demonstraters to protect the 2012 Olympic clock. Alongside a large police presence a steel cordon has been used for the first time to prevent access to the square itself, Whitehall and the Mall.
During the public sector workers demonstrations in November 2011 the road leading to Westminster and the Mall was closed off with these barricades.
