After an intermission of two months, the Portland Floral Society held one of the liveliest meetings November 19 in the history of the organization. Routine business had accumulated and required considerable attention. One new candi- date for membership was proposed. The action of the society remitting the dues of members in military service was extended to cover a case in which the most active member of a firm hold- ing membership was in the war zone. H. Niklas brought in a vase of White Maud Dean mums, which he said had been grown in a ground bed at Clackamas. A discussion arose as to the vitality of this variety now as com- pared with five or six years ago. Though the specimens shown were of excellent quality, it was generally conceded that this mum has depreciated in vigor. Prof. Lovitt, of the entomological de- partment of the Oregon Agricultural ^ollege, was present, with
