Liverpool, Merseyside, UK 24th May, 2015. Cunard Queen Mary arrival at dawn at Princes Dock Cruise Terminal. The flagship is the first of the company's three of luxury liners to arrive at Liverpool ahead of this Monday's celebrations which are expected to attract up to a million spectators. She will be joined by her two sister ships Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth in the following 24 hours for a sail past the city’s own three Queens to mark Cunard’s 175th birthday.
Between 24-26 May 2015, all three Cunard ships will call at Liverpool to salute a city that will be forever part of their history, culminating in all three Queens meeting on the Mersey for the first time on 25 May. The event will mark 175th anniversary of the famous passenger shipping line, their formation in the River Mersey the centre-piece of a weekend of celebrations to mark Cunard’s historic links with the city. The spectacle is expected to attract up to a million people. Cunard was founded in 1840, with Sir Samuel Cunard’s mail steamship RMS Britannia beginning a transatlantic service to Halifax and Boston from Liverpool. Further celebrations to mark that first journey are planned in the city in July.
