Neolithic sediment research. French archaeobotanist George Willcox studying river sediment at an archaeological site in Syria. This sediment is from the site of Jerf el-Ahmar on the Middle Euphrates in Syria. The site was occupied between 9200 and 8700 BC, overlapping between the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A and Pre-Pottery Neolithic B periods. Willcox is recovering plant specimens that will be analysed to obtain information about prehistoric plants and agriculture in the region. This site flooded in the 1990s following construction of the Tishrin Dam.
