Ros Castle from Hepburn Moor Northumberland England
Ros or Ross Castle is a conical hill above Chillingham Park which stands at 1036 feet or 316m high. As the highest point on the Kyloe Hills escarpment it has outstanding views both to the west to the Cheviot Hills and east over the coast. It was the site of a warning beacon during the Napoleonic wars whose mistaken firing in 1804 set off a public panic that the French had invaded. There is a small Iron Age hillfort on the peak. It was gifted to the National Trust in 1936 as part of a memorial to Viscount Grey of Falloden.
