Stamford Burghley House September 2016 Marquess of Exeter, a keen equestrian heard the three-day event at Harewood was cancelled and invited British Horse Society to hold the three day event in the grounds of Burghley the start of a remarkable journey was born, today the annual competition is attended by more 150,000 spectators on average over 60 of the world’s top riders complete’s for one of the purses from the prize fund of a quarter of a million pounds. Over the years the three day event as been host to World Championships, European Championships and a Young Riders European Championship. Burghley has long been graced with Royal’s as visitors and competitors, recently 2011 HRH Princess Royal presented the prizes, in 1971 Princess Anne, rode and took the European Champion title, Captain Mark Phillips longstanding association winning Burghley in 1973 subsequently becoming one of the course Designers.
