Senior Airman Johnnie Howard, a maintenance technician from the 141st Maintenance Squadron, sharpens a mattock prior to departing to the Sheep Creek fireline in Northport, Wash. August 8, 2018. Howard is one of nearly 60 Guardsmen from the 141st Air Refueling Wing assigned to a handcrew. Handcrew team’s primary responsibility is to cut a fireline around a wildfire to help suppress the fire by removing debris and digging down to the bare soil to clear any hot spots.
