Ravensbourne College of Design & Communication’s new home couldn’t be in a much more extraordinary location. Directly facing the O2 Arena on the Greenwich Peninsula, the £50 million building has to address the white expanse of the former Millennium Dome and form a strong edge to a new urban quarter. Designed by Foreign Office Architects, the college will be clad in a skin of tessellating aluminium tiles, which wrap seamlessly around all four facades. Conventional elements, such as columns, window frames and copings have been erased from the envelope to create a monolithic effect, binding the different departments of the college into a single entity.
