The Hoppings Europe's largest travelling funfair on Newcastle upon Tyne's Town Moor. The even attracts hundreds of thousands of people during the summer. It began in 1882 as a temperance festival to provide an antidote to it's drunken predecessor the Newcastle Races. This year the Hoppings has reduced the length due to the rain over the winter and spring.
