MANCHESTER , UK 21st February 2017 Protesters outside the UK Northern Powerhouse International Conference & Exhibition at Manchester Central Convention Complex today (Tuesday 21st April 2017). The conference runs today and tomorrow and has caused controversy after it emerged that all 15 main speakers are men and that only 13 out of the 98 speakers over the two days are women. The issue of devolution in the north has been marred by criticisms of sexism after a photograph in Novermeber 2011 was issued showing 11 men , including former chancellor George Osborne, lining up to sign the first devolution agreement.
