Winter continues with us, bringing one or two snow storms a week. Much cloudiness and the reverse of balmy con- ditions continue to bo our lot. Mr. Groundhog seems to have a high bat- ting average this year. However, each day brings spring nearer and a gener- ally optimistic feeling exists in trade circles. Eugene X. Naukam, the new secre- tary of the New England Florists' Al- liance, continues to make many friends in the trade and his urbanity and genial- ity please everyone. He now makes his headquarters at 77 Summer street and reports encouraging success in his work. Lord & Burnham Co. reports the great- est volume of commercial building con- tracts to date that the company ever had. Unusual activity also rules in other classes of buildings. In the Park Square district alone contracts have been let for an $8,000,000 hotel, a $6,000,000 busi- ness block and there are several others almost as large. It is estimated that $300,000,000 worth of buildings will soon be under way in greater Boston and this should materially help the florists' business. W. N. C. NEWPORT, R. I.
