[Vol. XV., No. WOOD WORKING AND ERECTING DEPARTMENT is driven by a small steam engine attached, the air is drawn in between theheated pipes and is forced out into large mains of galvanized iron, whichlead in both directions along the ceiling. They are supported by thestructural portion of the roof, and are furnished at suitable distances withbranch pipes which lead half way down the posts that support the struc-ture, and open at angles, so that the heated air is delivered in a downwardstream. Steam for operating the engines of the fans is brought from theneighboring boiler house previously described. A similar equipmentserves for heating the operating house. Compressed air is used for blowing out motors, for cleaning car cushionsand for removing the dust and shavings from the wood-working air is led to the various stations through pipes which terminate in asection of rubber hose with suitable nozzle valves.
