MOORE'S IMPROVED GRAFTING The modo of operating the knife is as follows: witli a small mallet or short stick (which is better), split the stock and remove the lcnife by a blow on the under sides of the hook, then insert the wedge sufficiently to place the scion, after which with a slight blow as before, remove the wedge when the knife can be hung upon a limb, or if the scion is not properly placed it can be done by putting the end of the hook in the cleft near the scion and gently opening by moving the handle. It will be seen that this knife possesses several advan- tages over the old style aside from that of safety in the latter. Either the edge of the blade or wedge is always upturned, endangering the grafter's hand. It is made of the best cast-steel and Norway iron.
