OCHAMCHIRE TO ZUGDIDI, GEORGIA, 30TH SEPT 1993: An elderly woman carries a suitcase on her sholder. She is one of thousands of Georgians from Ochamchire and Gali to arrive on foot at the Zugdidi Bridge, carrying whatever they can, as they flee before advancing Abkhazian forces. By the time the Abkhazian forces arrived at the Zugdidi bridge at around 9pm that night, marking their arrival with a barrage of artillary fire and cutting power to Zugdidi, many refugees had not yet crossed. Unsubstantiated reports said that many of those left behind were killed.
