Pennock, last week elected jiresident of the Society of Americ:ni l'h)rists, had the honor June 15 of beiiH; the American representative on the lioaril of jiidj^es at tlie Bagatelle rose Hardens, Paris. At the meeting of the jurors that day Mr. Pennock was elected vice-president representing the I'liited ?states. In a lengthy letter telling of Ills trip abroad, ^Ir. Pennock describes 'he roses which took the awards at Paris. lie writes: "The rose that stood out head ami ?-houlclers aliove any other rdse was PernetDucher's hybrid tea gold medal rose of last year. "Claudius Pernet is certainly a won- derful rose, ;i ricdi canary yellow, fadintr out ;is it gets older to a liyhter shade: large, full; long, well shaped bud and as lary;e as any hybrid tea rose in the g;ir- den. These tlowers Were borne on fairly long stems, well fet;ils out somewhat. It is a L;ooi|-si/,ed rose, full, double.
