Sow in drills one foot apart and inch deep, as early as the ground can be worked; continue for a suc- cession, at intervals, as late as July 15th. Owing to the prongy character of beet seed, the soil covering the seed should be packed firmly, either with the foot or roller, to insure proper germination. When the young plants are two or three inches in heighth, they should be thinned to stand four to six inches apart in the row.
