L It is asmall tree withspreadingbranches andcompound leaves, imparipinnate, with from seven to nine oval ellipticaland sessile leaflets, entire, pointed at the top, and sometimescusped. The fruits are spherical, and from i in. to | in. indiameter; when covered with the rind they are terminated bya pretty large persistent style. The outside of the shell isslightly sinuous or almost smooth, and the cotyledons verylarge in proportion to the size of the entire fruit. The size of itsfruit, too, separates it widely from all known species, being lessthan that of many varieties of Nuts. When with othervarieties of widely different shape and size it forms an interest-ing addition to the dessert-table. When mixed with ordinaryNuts it is hardly to bo distinguished from them, except bythe shape. As a fruit tree the Juglans regia microcarpa has its points ofscientific inte-rest.
