One of the fastest groAving hardy peren- nials we haA-e and the "ruost 'profuse bloomer, a plant often having 300 blooms on. Just the thing for hedges, as they never winter-kill, and are in bloom in midsummer when other flowers are very scarce. Blooms from seed the first year in open ground. Mixed colors. PRt. 5c. This grand new race of Hollyhocks is a most decided improvement in all respects over the older varieties. Indeed, so dif- ferent are they, and so much more beauti- ful in texture and appearance, that one would hardly su-spect they were related to the rather ordinary-looking old-style Hollyhocks. While the flowers of the common Hollyhocks rarely exceed three inches across, with this new race they are seldom less than five inches most of them being over five inches and often seven inches across. The leading idea and aim in the breeding of the Allegheny Holly- hocks was to produce a race of ])cr]>etual blooming habit, and this has been attained with a succciss that is most gratifyijig. Two to four buds are formed at the base of every leaf, where the old-style Holly- hocks have but one. These buds develop in rotation, the largest first and then the smaller ones, until all have opened into beautiful flowers. In any mild climate new buds are formed before the first crop has finished flowering. «o that in the South flowers are jiroduced all the year round, and in the North from July until cut off by frost. No one can imagine the beauty and brilliancy of the blossoms without seeing ; A row of plants in full bloom has as beautiful and varied shades of coloring as the rainbow. Double White, PRt. 5c.
