Dawn at Tiananmen Square at the entrance to the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City was built by the Ming Dynasty between 1406-1420. It was the imperial residence from more than 500 years. It has been a World Heritage Site since 1987. It was also the site of the 1989 massacre when Beijing pro-democracy students protested against communist rule.
