The new book of the dog : a comprehensive natural history of British dogs and their foreign relatives, with chapters on law, breeding, kennel management, and veterinary treatment . enormous size of skull, clod-diness of body, and thick-ness of bone obtainable in aforty-five or sixty pounds spe-cimen, is a hard task there isno denying, but such prodi-gious strides have been madeof late that one feels, givena few more years of patienceand perseverance, it will comevery near fulfilment. Before passing to othermatters, it is perhaps onlyright to mention, with all deferenceto our Gallicfriends, that inmany old printsof Bulldogs, big another mem-ber of the clubis Mr. GeorgeWeinberg, oflarger Bulldogfame. He ownssplendid Photo: 1. hm-lty. , THE MINIATURE BULLDOG. 55 miniatures in Tablet and Baby Bullet, and was the former owner of the incom-parable Champion Xo Trumps, one of thebest ever seen. Of this goodly company comes last, but far from least, Mrs. C. F. C. Clarke,. MISS M. O. FARQUHARSON S PETER PANBY CHARLEY TOBY VENUS. also a well known owner of big has of late turned her attentionto breeding and showing the smallervariety, and with great success, as herMersham Snowdrop and Tiger—the latterbred by her — abundantly testify. Infact, had not Tiger unluckily just toppedthe weight limit he would undoubtedlyhave been about the best dog ever benched, and, as far as points (and particularly headproperties) go, is as typical a MiniatureBulldog as could be found. The presentwriter has also the honour of being a com-mittee-woman, and her Champion Ninon delEnclos, Lady Cloda, Susan Anne, andChampion Bumps, the latter a very typicallittle dog and winner of twelve champion-ships, have all upheld the prestige of thebreed on the show bench. Mr. B. Marley, whose wife owns the celebrated FeltonBulldog kennels, is another member of thecommittee, so it will be seen that patrons of the big breed by no means scorn theirsmaller brethren.
