The gilded statue of King Charles ll in the centre of the Figure Court of the Royal Chelsea Hospital (for ex-soldiers) which he founded in 1682.
This figure of King Charles 2nd stands in the Figure Court of the Royal Chelsea Hospital of which he was founder. The buildings were designed by Sir Christopher Wren. The statue was from the studio of the famous wood carver Grinling Gibbons and is similar in style to the figure of James ll from the same sculptor, which now stands in Trafalgar Square outside the National Gallery.
