Bete Giyorgis, Rock Hewn Church, Lalibela, Ethiopia


Bete Giyorgis (St George's Church) was carved into stone; no bricks were used. A trench was cut around a block. From that block the church was carved. The church was built in the 12th century by request of King Lalibela
