Ithas been the policy of the University to secure to each studentas much individual instruction as possible; consequently, thenumber of the teaching force has been very greatly increased inrecent years, and the large classes divided into small sections, sothat each teacher can know his men personally and feel respon-sible for them. The University Record. Discipline All students are expected to attend faithfully totheir required duties. Daily reports are made ofall absences, and any student who exceeds a limited number issummoned before the Committee on Absences. If he persists inabsenting himself from his duties, he is required to withdrawfrom the IN PHYSICS LABORATORY Vicious men, idlers, and those whose presence would provein any way prejudicial to the University, are eliminated fromthe body of students. There are no petty regulations. A fewgeneral, well-recognized rules of good behavior are laid downfor the guidance of all. The University endeavors to makeyoung men manly and self-reliant, and to develop character byeducating the conscience. Monthly reports are sent to the parents or guardians of allstudents in the Undergraduate Department. These give notice 32 The University Record. as to the number of absences and, approximately, as to the satis-factory or unsatisfactory work clone. Final examinations are held in January and May, andreports on these are sent out within a week or ten days afterthe examinations have been completed.
