The poem obelisks are by Pablo Neruda and serve as a memorial outside his house in Santiago. Pablo Neruda (July 12, 1904 – September 23, 1973) was the pen name of the Chilean writer Ricardo Eliecer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto. Translated into dozens of languages, Pablo Neruda is universally considered one of the greatest and most influential poets of the 20th century. Critic and biographer Alistar Reid has stated that Neruda is the most widely read poet since William Shakespeare.
