16 March 2000 Gem a three year old Little Owl Britains only diurnal owl perches on the head of Severn Trent Water Environmentalist Gill Lewis at at Severn Trent Water s Netheridge sewage treatment works at Quedgely Gloucester where specially created nesting boxes are being installed in readiness for the breeding season The water company are setting up a series of lodges throughout central England as a retreat for the Little Owl whose numbers are diminishing due to natural nest hole habitats in old trees becoming scarce
