Uponthis foundation is a crib dam, constructed of iron and timber, 176 feet long onthe crest, terminating at eacli end in vertical masonry abutments. At thesouth side are the head gates of the canal, having an opening of forty feet inwidth, and from this point the canal follows the contours about ten miles ina westerly direction and at a distance of from one to two miles south of theSnake Dam and Head Gate O.
