A pinion ismounted upon thelower shaft, at the endthereof, adapted tomesh with the internalgear, but is normally held out of mesh by means of a coiled spring atthe end of the shaft. The pinion is mounted upon a long sleeve sur-rounding the shaft and extending through the bearing into the set of three shifting pinions is shown in the position of slow for-ward speed.
