All round thepublic gardens a wide drain, quite ten feetdeep, runs, and many of the good-class peoplemade shelters there by getting old railwayrails or tram rails, and roofing a part of thedrain in with these, piling loose earth onthe top. On the next day (Saturday, February loth)we were all very depressed on account ofLabrams death, and we expected heavy shell-ing again, but we had comparatively fewshells that day.
