The interior of a caravanserai where traders &merchants andtheir animals usedto occupyas they plied theirtrade across continents


Inside a Caravanserai, in Capaddocia they were important for overnight stays of up to 2,000 or 3,000 people a night. And their were used as a market place for goods as well as for banking, for haircuts and other purposes. A journey from China to Rome with silk & spice would take as long as 10 months. They were built by emperors to encourage secure relations and to facilitate pilgrims. Merchants would bring along provisions for cooking and sleeping. The picture shows modern day tourists relaxing outside a caravanserai.
