Castello della Verrucola (Verrucola castle) first documented in 1044, is a couple of kilometres away from the medieval town of Fivizzano in the mountainous region of the Apennines in northern Tuscany of Italy. The castle became privately owned by sculptor Pietro Cascella who purchase it in 1977 and began the long process of restoration. The castle is perched on a low hill surrounded by the 15th-century outer walls enveloping the small village with access by two main arched gates and a small narrow medieval bridge over a narrow river.
