Ancient and Modern. The Shard, 32 London Bridge by architect Renzo Piano begins to dominate the city landscape as the new high rise tower rises above the ancient Norman Tower of London and the Victorian Tower Bridge. The Shard encased in glass will be the tallest building within the European Union at 1017 feet ( 310 metres ) high and with 72 floors when completed in 2012. An open viewing platform will be on the top floor.
