The com-mander of the castle, RaymonddAlf aro, was secretly a member ofthe heretical sect, and though hewas bound to protect the religious,he undertook to put into executionthe plot formed against them. Thegates were opened by Raymond d-Alfaro, and the murderers were ledto the apartments occupied by themissionaries. The latter, hearingfurious shouts and violent blowsagainst the doors, knew that thehour of trial had come. Falling ontheir knees, they entoned the TeDeum, rejoicing that they werefound worthy to shed their bloodfor Christ. After battering downthe doors, the heretics fell upontheir unresisting victims and cruel-ly put them to death. God was pleased to glorify theseheroic confessors of the faith bymany miracles which werewrought on the scene of their mar-tyrdom and at their tombs. Theremains of the two Franciscanswere placed in the church of theFriars Minor at Toulouse, and theywere venerated there until thechurch and the tombs were dese-crated and sacked during the disas-trous times of the F
