Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. The Karst Plateau by Trieste. Mount Hermada (Grmada in Slovenian) is a low hill on the boundary between Italy and Slovenia. In the course of the WWI, it was an inexpugnable bulwark of the Austro-Hungarian Army, that defended Trieste from its top. The tunnel leading to the 'Cave of the Engine' (Pejca na Grmadi for the Slovenians). That karst cave contained the generators that produced electrical power for the front line on the crest of the hill.
