Private First Class Garret M. Ryan, Platoon 1043, Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, stands at parade rest prior to graduation at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Jan. 22. Ryan is a Plainfield, Ill., native and was recruited out of Recruiting Station Chicago. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego.
