The symbol of the city’s freedoms and at the heart of its coat of arms it was moved to Bruges in 1467 by Charles the Bold and only returned after his death in 1477. The current Perron monument was rebuilt by Jean Del Cour after the previous one was knocked over by a violent storm in 1693.
