Desmoplastic spitz naevus. Close-up of a dark brown desmoplastic spitz naevus on a patient's skin. A desmoplastic spitz naevus is a type of benign (non-cancerous) mole that usually occurs on children. The spot first appears as a small, dark nodule, and quickly grows over a month or two to up to 1cm diameter. Although harmless they are often surgically removed to prevent distress.
