I know of only one water that in any way resemblesit, a tiny lake in the mountains at Arolla in Switzerland. There a little streamissues from the mountain side from some still underground reservoir, where everyparticle of impurity has settled to the bottom. This little lake is only a few feetdeep, but the water is so clear that it is diflicult to distinguish the ripples on thetop from their shadows which lie on the The Bath House It is the same sometimes at the bathing place at Avalon. As one dives intothe water it is often not easy to tell exactly where the top of the water is; oneseye catches the shadows of the ripples on the sands below. It is not always asclear as this, but I have noticed it many times. The bath-house itself is a great convenience to visitors; there they can havecomfortable dressing-rooms where they can dress themselves at leisure, and wherebathing suits can be hired, and where there is accommodation for 250 people at a 18
