Elizabeth II acceded to the throne at the age of 25 on the death of her father, George VI in 1952. The coronation was held more than one year later because of the tradition of allowing time to pass after a monarch dies before holding the ceremony. The street was home to the Art Deco Odeon cinema (centre left). This has been demolished and the street is now car free. Littlehampton is a seaside town, lying on the English Channel on the eastern bank of the River Arun. This image is from an old amateur 35mm Kodak colour transparency. It will look soft if used at too large a size – a vintage 1950s photograph.
