Charles Nicolle, French Bacteriologist


Charles Jules Henri Nicolle (1866-1936), French Nobel Prize winning physician. In 1919, Nicolle demonstrated that typhus was transmitted by body lice. In addition to his work on typhus, Nicolle advanced the medical knowledge of whooping cough, measles, trachoma, and influenza.
