Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. The Karst Plateau by Trieste. Mount Hermada (Grmada in Slovenian) is a low hill on the boundary between Italy and Slovenia. In the course of the WWI, it was an inexpugnable bulwark of the Austro-Hungarian Army, that defended Trieste from its top. Quota 298, also called 'Dosso della trincea', where a natural cave was changed into an important armoured position. Very probably it was a lookout used by the Austro-Hungarian artillery that barred the way to Trieste.
