Use,dessert and kitchen ; quality good (pronounced to be the richest crab yetknown ); season, all winter, and till February. This variety, like theChicago, has been over-fruited for some years; and the apples are under-size this season, as represented in the cut. Lady Crab (syn., Fyrus baccata fruda ?tigra). — From A. M. Lawver,South Pass, 111.; an imported variety. Is presented here, not as a Siberian,but rather as a contrast to that class of apples, and as a sample of another. Chicago, No. 2. Coral, No. 4. species, or a sub-species, of the Pyrus nialiis, — that from which our commonapples are derived. Mr. Lawver thinks this cannot belong to the Siberianfamily. It resembles the Lady Apple in form, and manner of bearing itsfruit in clusters. Tree more spreading ; bears early and profusely: a treein my garden, three years planted, bore a half-bushel this season. Thereis no resemblance in tree to the Siberians. Fruit small, oblate, regular; surface smooth, shining, deep red ; dotsscattered, fawn ; basin wide, shallow, regular; eye small, closed ; cavityregular; stem long ; core medium, closed ; seeds few, large, angular; fleshwhitish, soft, juicy; flavor mild, sub-acid.
