It is a semi-aquatic animal that lives in rivers and lakes, where territorial adult males with groups of 5 to 30 females and young will control an area of the river. During the day they remain in the water or mud , and both intercourse and childbirth happen this animal in the water. At dusk become more active and out to graze on grass . While hippopotamuses rest near each other in the water , grazing is a solitary activity , and are not territorial on land.
