The Caveau Saint-Pierre restaurant, in a 16th century typically Alsatian timber-framed house, reflected in the rippling surface of the canalised River Lauch, which winds through the historic Little Venice (La Petite Venise) area at Colmar, Alsace, Grand Est, France.
Colmar, Alsace, Grand Est, France: rippling reflections in the River Lauch of the half-timbered facade and pointed gable of the Caveau Saint-Pierre restaurant, housed in a typically Alsatian, timber-framed 16th century house in the heart of Little Venice (La Petite Venise). The restaurant offers waterfront dining to its patrons beside the placid canalised waterway. Rising in the middle distance in this view looking north from the Pont Saint Pierre bridge is the 16th century bell tower, topped by a green Renaissance lantern, of one of Colmar’s other main attractions, the medieval Gothic Église Saint-Martin Roman Catholic church. Picturesque Little Venice is a magnet for tourists who can view its colourful timber-framed houses by embarking on floating tours. They travel in flat-bottomed boats of a type once used by the market gardeners and wine producers who, from medieval times, began to colonise the Krutenau quarter stretching to Colmar’s semi-rural suburbs.
