The former hospice “Altes Spittel” stands below the Alpstafel Niwe east of the Gampisch plain. Simplon Pass, alt. 2005 m. Svitzerland. Kaspar Stockalper had the tower-like building built year 1666 to offer free protection to mules, goods and pack animals. Merchants and mules were accommodated until 1831.
