Attleboro, Mass., a town of about 10,000 population,has for years had a system of combined sewers abouttwo miles long emptying directly into Ten Mile many years there was continual agitation for a and several plans were made, all of which in-cluded a pumping plant and sedimentation basins atvarious levels, and were rejected. But in the spring of 1909 the town was authorizedto spend $500,000 for sewers and sewage disposal, andJ. J. Van Valkenburgh was retained as engineer. Hesubmitted plans which were followed in a system whichhas now been in operation about a year.
