But when half way through his first year, he wakes tofind Preliminary Oratorical Contest, staring at him from every tree and window, and on inquiry finds that each Sophomore and Junior. ROBT. M. k-ERR. PAUL McCLANAHAN. has been solicited to take part in this tryout, he realizes not only thatsuch a factor exists but also that it is potent. The personnel of the Association consists of a federation of thePhilo and Eccritean Societies, its aim is to promote the students inter-est in Oratory. At the opening of the present year Graham Bryson was elected president; Frank Galloway, vice president; and Ray Elder, Chancellor ofthe Exchequer. Thus organized tha Oratorical Association retired intothe tall grasses and remained hidden from public gaze until Marchwhen it came forth to arrange for the Preliminary Contest. When theevening of the contest arrived 6 worthy competitors presented themselvesand after a hard and close scrimmage Mr. Kerr was declared the one bestfitted to champion Monmouths cause at Inter-Coilegiate next fall.
