The path up to the summit of Thorpe Cloud starts just beyond the stepping stones near Lin Dale. The path climbs over rocky steps before reaching a more defined path above Lin Dale. As height is gained the views open up north along the River Dove and west over Bunster Hill. More rocky steps take you to the small summit ridge. The views from here are impressive, to the north St Peter's church at Alstonefield can be seen. To the west the Izaak Walton Hotel and Ilam Hall.
