This photo, which dates to around the 1920s, shows a Machine Potato Digger, Digging Groundnuts. Groundnuts are better known as peanuts. They are also called goobers. The British call them monkey nuts. The process of picking was slow and tedious, as was the growing and harvesting. George Washington Carver and his analysis of peanuts and their potential uses popularized the peanut.
