Max Wolf, German astronomer. Maximilian Franz Joseph Cornelius Wolf (1863-1932) was a pioneer of astrophotography. He worked at the observatory at the University of Heidelburg, Germany, where he discovered more than 200 asteroids. He also discovered several comets, and the red dwarf star Wolf 359. He was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society (1914) and the Bruce Gold Medal of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (1930). A lunar crater and an asteroid are named in his honour.
