This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product The ExoMars 2016 spacecraft composite, comprising Schiaparelli, the ExoMars Entry, Descent and Landing Demonstrator Module lander (top) and the Trace Gas Orbiter (with folded solar panels and insulated antenna). These are mated with the Breeze upper stage on the conical launch vehicle adapter, photographed on 2 March prior to encapsulation in the launcher fairings. The spacecraft was launched 14 March 2016. Schiaparelli, which was designed to test landing technologies, crash-landed on Mars on 19 October 2016. The Trace Gas Orbiter will begin atmospheric mapping of the planet in 2017.
